Rose, perhaps the most famous and most popular flower in the world. But she is also very old. Did you know that archaeologists have found a fossil of her that is roughly 35 million years old? Not surprisingly, the rose bush blooms even in very demanding conditions. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said forcut roses. Sometimes it happens that after a few days in the vase they bow down sadly.
So what affects whether a rose in a vase will please us for days or weeks?
- Check the rose stems carefully before buying - the stronger they are, the longer they will last.
- Roses they don't like drafts and even a slight blow can affect their lifespan. Therefore, pay attention to where the roses are placed in the flower shop. If the flowers are displayed in an environment where it can blow, consider choosing a different flower.
- Purchasedroses wrap well in paper - blowing they don't tolerate transport well.
How to care for roses?
- Cut the ends of the roses with a sharp knife at an angle of about 2- 3 centimeters. Thanks to an oblique cut, you create a larger area, thanks to which the flower can drink its fill. You can make the cut under water and then place it in a vase with prepared water without much delay. A cut stem heals quickly in the air and can cause it not to let in as many nutrients into the plant afterwards.
- The flower should already be cleaned at the florist, but if not, proceed as follows: If the rose still has thorns, remove them - at least the ones that will be under water. Likewise, remove the leaves - they rot. Only the stem really belongs in the water.
- A clean container is another basic key to success. Wash it properly with disinfectant. It is important to get rid of all microorganisms.
- The temperature of the water is a frequently discussed topic. In many instructions on the Internet you will find recommendations to put flowers in warm water. But that certainly does not apply to roses. And the opposite doesn't work for them either. Water that is too cold will shock them. Therefore, place them in lukewarm water at room temperature. Pour it into a vase and let it stand. Mix in flower food - the florist probably packed it with your bouquet..
- Change the water every other day. In the case of water mixed with flower food, once every 4 days is sufficient. Cut the stems regularly every other day by another 2-3 centimeters so that the flower has a constant supply of water and nutrients.
- When first placed in the vase, the water level should not exceed ¾ of the stem. After a few hours, drain a little and let it reach ½ the stem.
- Place the roses in a cooler place out of direct sunlight.
Also be careful with which flowersroses you get connected. Society is not doing them very well. Of course, the florist in the store should inform you of this. Roses do not get along with, for example, lilies, lilies of the valley or carnations. You also won't please them if you have fruit near them. So forget about the mysterious corner with a vase of roses and a bowl of apples... Fruit emits ethylene, which is not good for roses. What to add, in short, roses are soloists who do not like to share the attention. No wonder, their beauty is unique.
